A Real Pain
Drama
Two cousins join a tour group to Poland to visit a death camp near Lublin, in honour of their grandmother who escaped to America.
The title "A Real Pain" plays on different versions of pain, someone whose behaviour makes their company intolerable and someone who is deeply troubled and suffering. Even the most empathetic among us cannot feel another's pain. The movie is grounded, never getting maudlin or mired in unnecessary detail. The behaviour of the characters is authentic enough to allow for comedic moments, as we see elements of our uncomfortable selves on the screen. Far from the shallow now.
