Belfast
Biography Drama History
The story of a young family in Belfast and how they live amid the sectarian violence that was erupting around them in the late 1960s.
"Belfast" is drawn from the director and writer's childhood memories with a delightfully nostalgic orientation, the period recreated in black and white with a whimsical eye for detail. While hostilities are apparent in the streets, the focus is on school days and family life as viewed by a child - a little oversimplified, but warm and authentic. Life, as it was, may be disintegrating, but the depictions of familial relationships are adeptly crafted to imbibe a depth of feeling. No blarney.
