Disney's Snow White

A tyrannical and narcissistic queen takes out a hit on her stepdaughter when a magic mirror judges the princess as more beautiful.

Written over 200 years ago to highlight that beauty is more than skin-deep, it's no surprise this fairytale hasn’t aged well. The protagonist is beautiful yet simple-minded, she finds housework fulfilling. Not that there's anything wrong with any of that, but the movie fails to demonstrate its moral point. There are seven odd woodlanders and, instead of a handsome prince, there's an ordinary-looking vagabond without a title. Worse still, "Snow White" lacks dramatic tension. The characters skip through woodland clearings whistling humdrum songs and we wonder where the magic went. Ho-hum, ho-hum…
