Frankenstein

The story of Victor Frankenstein, an egotistical man obsessed with overcoming death and the invention of his tortured creation.

The movie opens at about the place the book finishes and loops back to the start. "Frankenstein" is tonally true to its source, even if some elements have been altered. The director is alleged to have spent twenty-five years imagining and planning this production, clearly time not wasted. CGI is used to build visually immersive sets in a gothic-operatic style, and there's a dilapidated opulence to the scenes that's complemented by extravagant costumes. The star turn is delivered by the tormented monster, who will tear at the heart of audiences with his portrayal of anguished suffering and the wretchedness of a lonely creature spurned by his maker. What manner of creature is this?
