Hamnet
Drama History Biography
Agnes Shakespeare is a herbalist and healer, but is unable to save her young son from the plague. She and her husband, William, process their grief differently.
"Hamnet" is imaginative, engaging, and moving. The story is lifted from the well-researched and bestselling book that shares its title with the film. The premise of the plot is that the names 'Hamnet' and 'Hamlet' were considered the same and interchangeable in the 16th century, and the death of a son was the genesis for perhaps the most influential play in literature. The players do justice to their characters' namesakes, and we're invited to feel their emotion and mourn with them. The scenery and setting are perfectly recreated and staged, engaging all our senses and allowing us to slip into a place and time previously only imagined. "Doubt truth to be a liar; But never doubt I love."
