Mickey 17

To escape loan sharks after his business fails, Mikey Barnes joins a space mission to populate an icy planet.

Mikey is an 'Expendable', a rank of space traveller used for testing harsh chemicals and conditions, restored to life through reconstruction and reprinting. "Mikey 17" is imaginative science fiction, coloured by the lead actor giving a star turn in the titular role. Entertaining and uneven, the production is true to the genre, venturing where no movie has gone before. The action is enlivened by 'creepers', bizarre beasts that look like a cross between an armadillo and a Venus flytrap. Funny but overplayed, the film is a satirical thread on authoritarianism, featuring an oddly recognisable totalitarian tyrant. Gravitate towards the space invaders.
