My Favourite Cake

Bored with her solitary life under the oppressive Iranian regime, and encouraged by her friends to look for love, Mahin observes Faramarz at a pensioner restaurant and begins changing both their lives.

Without the glamour or frivolity usually woven into a romance story, "My Favourite Cake" is a rebellious piece of filmmaking. The morality police can't repress the longings of the protagonists who, at seventy, don't need permission to dance around the living room and drink wine. These are unlikely insurgents with less intent to disrupt the status quo than the writer/director team who created them. The storytelling is heartfelt and powerful, with contrary elements edited into a memorable movie. A subversive cake with cream.
