IFF: Nostalgia
Drama
After 40 years away, Felice returns to Naples to visit his ailing mother and finds that scores left over from the crimes of his youth are not settled.
Nostalgia as a feeling is expressed through reminiscence as the protagonist roams the streets of his youth. City labyrinths and neighbourhoods are faithfully represented on the screen. Degradation and decay are evident while redemption is just beyond reach - scenes are atmospheric with a lurking sense of something ominous. The plot is deeply reliant on the city and its traditions and may be less accessible to those unfamiliar with its history. Even with the accomplished cast, some finer points are lost. Memories.
