An insurrectionist is leading a mellow and justifiably paranoid life with his teenage daughter off-grid and away from revolutionary involvement until a Colonel, his arch nemesis, comes seeking satisfaction.

The battles of ideology may have once looked far-fetched, but in our increasingly gonzo-style political forums, "One Battle After Another" is a movie for today. In part, it's that insight that makes the production so compelling; the story and character elements borne of fanatical political fervour are readily recognisable. The director has executed an all but faultless rendering of an action thriller with an impeccable cast who breathe it to life. Not breathing is the audience, held taut with tension, a riveting experience. Don't be dissuaded by the lengthy runtime, as the film never seems too long, nor does it take itself too seriously, with humorous moments keeping it grounded. Demands one repeat performance after another.
