Quisling: The Final Days

Biography Drama History War

During World War II, Norway was caught between the threat of the Bolsheviks (Soviets) and the Nazis (Germany). The occupying forces appointed Vidkun Quisling as head of government. He is on trial for treason.

"Quisling: The Final Days" is a historical drama constructed from the diaries of the man appointed to be the protagonist's spiritual advisor. The plot examines the convictions of an authoritarian leader who believed he was acting in the best interests of his country. The subject is morally complex, and we are given insight into a mindset of unwavering belief, remaining staid even when facing a firing squad. The actors, costumes, sets, and cinematography are all excellent, providing an exacting recreation of the period. The movie is essentially a character study which concludes something incomprehensible lies within every human being. Traitor or saviour?
