Souleymane's Story

A food delivery cyclist in Paris lives in the margins, undocumented, and tries to prepare for an immigration interview and a chance at residency.

Propulsive is the right adjective to describe the life of the protagonist as he rides through the nighttime streets of the "City of Light", always against time and with everybody wanting a slice of his earnings. The stress of trying to hold it together against the odds is palpable. The filmmaking is extraordinary in illustrating the very real pressures of living in a big city without legal residency. The social issues are well known and seemingly intractable; "Souleyman's Story" is powerful in personalising a topic we may only know as a political concern and feel is distant from our everyday lives. A race against race.
