MIFF: The Golden Spurtle
Documentary
In the central Highlands of Scotland lies the little village of Carrbridge, where the annual world championship of porridge-making is held: The Golden Spurtle.
A spurtle is an essential tool for making porridge; a wooden spoon simply will not do. We meet the slightly eccentric yet totally charming residents of the town as they prepare to host people from around the world, including a taco chef from Australia, a two-time finalist. There's considerable charm and humour to be found when we visit God's own country to discover that the perfect dish of porridge has only three ingredients: oats, salt, and water. The pot must be stirred anticlockwise, or you might let the devil in - and nobody dares tempt fate or tradition. Finding the Goldilocks of oatmeal.
