The Last Journey

Lars has lost his zest for life since retirement, so his son Filip enlists the aid of a colleague, and they set off to create a special trip to France.

The Last Journey documents a meticulously planned trip to recreate some of the father's fond memories of family holidays. Across the generational divide, there are unrealistic expectations, misunderstandings, relentless positivity, and a setup where each almost inevitably disappoints the other. The filmmaker draws on childhood memories, weaving his father's recollections and cassette-based diary recordings into the journey through which their relationship is deepened. Magic happens in deeply touching moments when one party allows themselves to really see the other. We all ride in an orange Renault 4.
