The Last Paradise on Earth
Drama
In an isolated village in the Faroe Islands, people are leaving, fish are swimming to colder waters, and the salmon processing plant is facing closure; the outlook is bleak.
Dramatic landscapes and taciturn characters fill "The Last Paradise on Earth", an unblinking depiction of loss, grief, and environmental disruption: challenges with no prospect of change. While the pace is slow and words are few, contemporary issues are faced head-on, and traditions are maintained. The plot centres on a young man who doesn't want to leave; his character brings depth by being grounded and realistic about life around him. The setting is sometimes called paradise for its stunning natural beauty and remote location, but life is one of hardship and few choices. Not all islands are in the sun.
