The Salesman

A couple are forced to move to a new apartment when construction work compromises the stability of the block they live in.

"The Salesman" is an introspective look at life and society in Iran by contrasting what happens in private and in public spaces. The story has a well-developed social conscience, particularly around gender roles, and is interesting in its complexity. Tension is maintained by only gradually revealing the plot, and a web of moral dilemmas subtly emerge from seemingly straightforward situations. The work of a shrewd writer and director, this is a film sure to reward astute viewers. Sold.
