When political unrest erupts in Tehran's streets after the death of a young woman at the hands of the morality police, Iman, a judge, finds he cannot trust his wife and daughters.

Making a political film, and possibly any film, in the conditions this director faced was a perilous undertaking. "The Seed of the Sacred Fig" is a small miracle of filmmaking whereby oppressive societal restrictions have been reflected and told through the experiences of one family. The plot is intense and frighteningly intelligent as family members are torn to find what is not only lawful but also what is right. Honour thy father.
