The Trial of the Chicago 7

Eight men (and subsequently seven) stand accused of conspiring to cause riots that broke out at the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago.

The writer-director is working in his favourite arena with a piece of recent political history, exploring issues of power and dissent which are readily recognisable today. "The Trial of the Chicago 7" is by turns engaging, frightening, and chaotic, all with a steady heartbeat of outrage. The courtroom drama has been enhanced with dialogue and quips apparently not sourced directly from transcripts, but all readily forgiven for the absorbing result that seems to ring true to the original event. Peace and War.
