Trifole

Dahlia arrives at her grandfather's house in Alba, Piedmont, to find all is in disrepair and the old truffle hunter himself is losing his memory.

The scenery captured in "Trifole" is sublime, with early morning mist rising up from hills covered in rows of grapevines that have come to replace the oak forests where truffles are sourced. The cast is superb, including the ever-faithful hunting dog. The movie reflects the losses of the simple ways of the past, even as it makes a turn partway through into a wonderland-like mythic sequence, with a greed-driven auction of the largest truffles, before returning to holding respect for nature and her passing seasons, which herald change. Truffle in paradise.
