MIFF: Universal Language

A triptych of three interconnected stories set somewhere between Winnipeg and Tehran, in a town where Farsi is the primary language and a banknote is frozen in a puddle.

There's no making sense of this bewildering movie and its wandering storyline. Icy settings become audible, and the soundtrack is filled with the satisfying sound of crumping snow. Shivering audiences will be thawed by the warmth of the characters and their stories, not to mention the odd turkey. The action is curious and comical, like the deadpan tour guide who takes his long-suffering visitors through an abandoned shopping mall.
